Steps for Filing An Insurance Claim for Water Damage
We’ll Help with Claims for Water Damage
Insurance is one of those things that nobody wants to use or pay for, but when you need it, you need it!
CT Mold Pros has experience working directly with insurance companies to ensure the coverage process goes as smoothly as possible.
When water damage occurs, whether because of a summer storm, frozen pipe, or a basement boiler that finally gave up the ghost, here are the steps for working with insurance for a water damage claim
1. Get your paperwork in order.
Make sure all of your insurance information is up to date and easily accessible, either digitally or via hard copy.
2. Document the damage.
If you can safely access the damaged area*, be sure to take several photographs before anything is moved. Once photographs are taken, important items can be removed from the area.
*Always turn off electricity to the flooded area. If you need help, call an electrician to walk you through turning off your breaker and identifying whether or not it’s safe to access your basement. If you smell gas or if your carbon monoxide detector goes off, evacuate the premises and call 911.
3. Call your insurance company.
Ask your agent if your home or business insurance policy includes coverage for water damage by storm, burst pipe, failed appliance, etc.
4. Open a claim.
Provided the damage is covered under your insurance policy, open a claim.
5. Contact a water damage remediation specialist.
Don’t worry about anything else—just give CT Mold Pros a call and give us your claim number. Our office staff will connect with your agent to ensure we get everything covered while our crew comes to help dry you out.
